Star Television launched in September 2009 as VETTRI TV with the objective of providing quality Tamil Entertainment to the audience of Sri Lanka. Currently Star Television is the only Tamil movie channel in Sri Lanka which covers a large audience via terrestrial, DTH, cable, Satellite and IP TV.

Within a very short span, Star Television has become the fastest growing channel in Sri Lanka in terms of viewership and numbers.
